TESOL

“Will you teach us English?” English-speaking Christian workers are often asked this question. English has become the world’s common language, and throughout the world, non-English speakers are anxious to learn. Many English-speaking workers have attempted to teach English, only to discover that being a native speaker does not in itself make one a good teacher of English.
So… learn to teach English!
Our Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) course includes four weeks of intensive training in basic theories and methods of teaching English, intercultural communication for teachers, classroom management, how to work with different learning styles, testing, principles of language acquisition, as well as the sounds and grammar of English. An integral part of the training is the opportunity to practice teach on campus during the course.
Upon successful completion of the course, the student will receive a TESOL certificate and supporting documents from the Institute for the Nations, Lebanon PA. These will become the key for opening opportunities to teach English in many settings, worldwide.
Meet real needs of internationals within English-speaking countries… of residents in non-English speaking nations worldwide.
Acquire a job skill that opens doors to hard-to-enter countries… one that reaches people with whom you are already working.
Prerequisites
The TESOL school does not allow time to teach the English skills. It focuses on the skills of teaching, so the students must be proficient in English pronunciation and grammar in order to be successful. You do not need to be a native English speaker. There is no formal testing requirement; we expect that you will know if your English is adequate to be a teacher. Some non-native English speakers do well in TESOL; others struggle. We will work with you as much as possible to help you to succeed.
Completion of a Discipleship Training School (DTS) is not required.
Community Living
Community living is part of the YWAM tradition. We live together and eat together. Everyone participates in the work duties of the community. We expect our students and staff to participate in the life of the community and to respect one another, giving preference to one another in love.

The cost of the TESOL course is $1,050 USD plus a non-refundable $35 registration fee. The tuition includes text books, lectures, housing and meals for the four weeks of the course.
